Johanne Flottorp (hardanger fiddle and vocal) and Åsmund Solberg (guitars) come from the southeast part of Norway. For their debut record Heimespel, they present the fierce and “badass” side of the local folk music from this region. It is known for its characteristic dance rhythms and strong melodies. The music is traditionally played by solo hardanger fiddle but through the years Flottorp/Solberg have developed a new way to play the music as a duo, in a way that is still true to the tradition.

Johanne Flottorp is an award winning and Norwegian Grammy nominated hardanger fiddle player and a lifelong student of the folk music from this region. Åsmund Solberg is a guitarist with broad stylistic background based in jazz. Together they found a way to bring this regional tradition to a broader audience in a new and traditional way.

All the tracks on this record are traditional, with new arrangements by the duo and you will find some information about the tunes inside the CD-booklet. There are however some words and expressions that might be handy to know when listening to the music.
